Responding to the special circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Commitment Award Ceremony was filmed at the Collegium Maius in Erfurt on July 8, 2020 with only applicants and hosts in attendance. Jury members and speakers who could not be there physically were included via video messages. The ceremony was then streamed via Facebook and Youtube for the rest of the Brandt School and Engagementpreis community as well as the broader public and can be watched here.
Sophia Saller is the Commitment Award’s newest ambassador. Saller is a triathlon world champion and has a PhD in mathematics from the University of Oxford. Social engagement is something she values highly: “In sports and in my studies I learned what you can achieve if you dare to try what others consider impossible, and if you follow your goals with passion and perseverance. There are of course bigger problems in the world, and I am very proud to have the privilege of being a Commitment Award ambassador. I wish everyone that wonderful experience when, after much hard work, the impossible seems and becomes possible.”
