Mango Factory for Gambian Women

In Gambia, food processing and storage, especially of grains, is considered a household chore, and therefore attributed to women and girls. The time spent on this process means less time spent on educational and productive activities.

Together with the women of Nyofelleh, a threshing machine for different types of grain was purchased and installed, freeing them from the mechanical activity of threshing wheat, rice, maize, sorghum and millet by hand and giving women and girls the opportunity to focus on other activities.

The project also included training on processing mangoes into jam, thereby reducing the amount of spoiled mangoes.
